For the 30-day interval from July 5 through August 4, these nine states had covid case counts and death counts at least 50 percent above the all-state average:
- Alabama
- Arizona
- Florida
- Georgia
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
- Nevada
- South Carolina
- Texas
For the 10-day interval from August 4-14, these same nine states remained the only ones at least 50 percent above average for deaths. No other states joined their ranks. Of the nine, all but Arizona also remained high outliers on case count. Arizona’s case count dropped to the across-states average; it’s likely that a decrease in the Arizona death count will follow in the next 10-day interval.
