Covid Continuity Continues

For the 10-day interval from August 14 through August 24, these eleven states had covid death counts per 100K of population at least 50 percent above the all-state average:

  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • California
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Idaho
  • Louisiana
  • Mississippi
  • Nevada
  • South Carolina
  • Texas

As observed previously, the continuity is strong across time. Compared with high outliers on death count from the preceding 10-day interval (August 4-14), only one dropped out (Alabama). All three of the new states added to the high death list (Arizona, California, Idaho) had previously been near the threshold.

Across states, the diagnostic test-positive rate from the preceding 10-day interval correlated highly with the current death rate (r = +.83). The death rate from the preceding 10-day interval correlated even more highly with the current death rate (r = +.97). These findings reaffirm results of prior statistical analyses. In brief:
